Ok....So you started Ring shopping .... went to a few local stores and looked around online right. Are you Driving your self crazy yet ?

Lets talk about frequently asked question from customers looking to purchase a diamond or Engagement Ring

"What's the difference between EGL and GIA?"

Here are a few Facts:

1.Both GIA and EGL Certificates are two of the Most recognized Lab names here in the USA  However  ( there are also many others that exist) EGL-USA , EGL HONG KONG , IGI, HRD,AGS  etc....

2. Diamond Certificates are from Labs that outline the details of the stone, Both are recognized Labs which are distributed to Diamond Districts and Jewelry Stores across USA ,CANADA, AUSTRALIA and WORLD WIDE. Offered on Online sites as well as on Ebay.

3.They are both recognized in the industry and are more desirable than buying a diamond without any certification at all. But they are competitors and THEY ARE NOT THE SAME...... AS A EXAMPLE:

One of my jeweler colleagues once told me this.  If you want to buy a car  lets say you go to a Car Dealer who show you a 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S550 VS 2015 Hyundai Equus -BOTH Black -4 door sedans with similar options.

You look at both and test drive them. However you decide to buy the Hyundai, You love the way it looks and drives and the Price it's offered at. Can you then expect to go down the road to a Certified Mercedes Dealer and ask them to "confirm or Verify" your car is Exact as a Mercedes and worth Just as much?   This is what a lot of people do they buy a Gorgeous diamond online and then go to a local Jeweler who didn't sell them the ring to "Verify what a Great deal they got"  what do you think they will tell you or try and do?????when you ask their "OPINION" on your Deal"?

EGL-vs-GIA

Going back to the certificates, ALL LABS use different Grading systems and diamond grading for mainly color and clarity is done at every laboratory not with machines but by the human eye. THEREFORE IT IS "SUBJECTIVE".

This is where they vary, and each Certificate even GIA will not offer any warranty as to their grading.  You can send the same diamond to GIA in LA and NY and get 2 different opinions !!!! it has happened MANY TIMES , certificate is a guideline of the diamonds details NOT A GUARATNEE even when you buy GIA .

ALL CERTIFICATED INCLUDE A DISCLAIMER : GIA CERTIFICATE  WHICH STATES " THIS REPORT IS NOT A GUARANTEE OR VALUATION"  " IT is the Lab's "Opinion" which is SUBJECTIVE and Vary depending on persons, training,  eyes, and techniques and equipment used at the time of grading, lighting and many other factors.

4. A diamond Certificate can be compared to a "Birth Certificate" of a Diamond stating Details about the Diamonds 4 C's

5. A certificate alone will not describe how beautiful or ugly the diamond is in reality. Nor will it tell you if it sparkles ,No matter who certified it..... ONLY your eye can determine that FACT! Therefore that is why I offer the 3-Day inspection period from delivery to you, on any item I ship out. This will give you the opportunity to see it for yourself and make your own decision if you love it or not . Two diamonds with the exact details can still look different and be prices differently and THERE ARE NO TWO DIAMONDS THAT ARE IDENTICAL .

ONE DIAMOND IS 30% MORE $$$

  CONTINUE.........

Although I offer any certification requested by my customers including GIA, EGL HRD, IGI, EGL_USA etc.   I and most Jewelers will openly admit what is common knowledge out there for years, that GIA diamonds are graded on stricter scale than EGL and other certified diamonds. Therefore if you purchase a diamond with a EGL certificate from me or anywhere else for that matter, you are doing so with the understanding that grading will differ and be more looser then if you were to buy the same details with GIA certification. MY price is based on the total finished piece (the cost of the diamond from my supplier  which I personally choose to be the most visually beautiful plus the setting of your choice, as a package deal. The price reflects . The piece is sold with mutual agreement and understanding that you accept the center diamond "as is" based on the Certification it comes with at point of sale). I can not offer you a guess what GIA would rate it as? If its not already certified by that Lab. I do not assume any liability in the grading of diamonds Diamond Direct Buy is a 'broker" in this transaction. I offer you a inspection period from pick up or delivery so YOU can see it for your slef , take it where ever yu like and get a independednt evaluation, and make a decision Yes or No  at that point. Once the inspection ends the sale becomes final and buyer assuems all resposibility for the diamonds purchased " AS IS "

BUY IT- SEE IT -AND MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION

Most people are understanding, while doing their own research and visiting stores, shopping around or going online will notice a something else when comparing the same size/color and clarity ....

1. There are NO 2 diamonds alike

2. there is NO way to speculate how many grades off the stone may be.  as grading is not consistant from one diamond to another . There have been many tests shown online out there, where different diamonds get sent off and some times the grade matches, sometimes it's off only on color but not Clarity. Other times on both.

3. It can  NOT be generally stated that ALL other certificates are graded looser by 1-2 Grade off GIA.  As each diamond is different with unique characteristics and inclusions, some have fluorescence that my upgrade color and other don't.

Yes GIA is known for the highest standard , however since grading is subjective and a 'opinion' There have been cases where the same diamond was sent out to GIA in LA and then to NY and got a different grading even from them!

I have included a visual for you based on GIA even though the diamond below got the same clarity grade the "visual" can be VERY different. Another Fact...., GIA diamonds command a substantially higher price tag just because of their certificate and grading. Just because a diamond is certified by GIA does not automaticcally make it a 'nicer" diamond .

Below are just 2 examples of very different visuals of inclusions yet they both got a si1 rating, bu GIA  that is why YOU have to see the diamond you're buying (This is why  I offer the 3 days inspection to my customers out of state) so you can be the judge.

MY advise is: "IF YOU WANT GIA GRADING then YOU HAVE TO BUY A GIA CERTIFIED DIAMOND

This diamond is rated as GIA si1

This diamond is also rates as SI1 BY GIA AND I COULD SHOW YOU 10 MORE THAT ARE "ALL DIFFERENT" WITH THE SAME GRADING

There are NO 2 diamonds that have the same imperfections.

Many times in the past when I do meet with customers face to face, if available I will bring a  GIA comparable stone and without saying which is which, told them that ONE, is thousands more in Price ..and ask... "Can you tell which one ?" Majority of the time my customers could not see a substantial difference to justify paying thousands more for something that , to them was visually almost identical, I believe it should be the customers personal choice. We can not say only GIA diamonds are the best, or You should only buy a ring from Tiffany& Co . They sell GIA diamonds at thousands more then anyone and people buy them. There are many un-certified diamonds that are just as beautiful. Customer should be allowed the choice. THATS WHY THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS OUT THERE.

If we compare diamonds to cars again It would be  like saying you should ONLY buy a MERCEDES  because all other cars are NO GOOD. Well not everyone wants or can afford a Mercedes.

I have been in Business since over 10 years and have  developed long lasting relationships with my diamond Suppliers, In Europe, Australia, Canada as well as USA, who Know how picky I am about  the diamonds I choose for my customers. While I agree that EGL diamond grades can be lax, most average eyes can not tell the difference even when placing them side by side, I can not offer my evaluation or GUESS what GIA would grade it as. The only way to know is to have it graded by GIA . At which point You should just buy a diamond Already Certified by GIA and not play a guessing game.

IF we only have GIA diamonds there will be no alternative, no competition and only ONE company controlling the market and prices.

EACH DIAMOND IS DIFFERENT. Not everyone can or wants to pay a premium price for the GIA grading , but if you do I can get you GIA certified no problem. Many customers ask for EGL Diamonds to replace a stolen or lost ring, therefore if you are more concerned about the best visual diamond they can afford, being 100% Natural and not enhanced with the best possible sparkle and eye clean clarity....... THEN I'M THE ONE WHO WOULD LOVE TO HELP YOU .

One HUGE Mistake People make is assume that an EGL diamond is not as good as a GIA diamond. People get caught up in what they read on line or hear in stores from a sales person.....Yes yes , I know all the information that is out there. I have heard it all before. However one statement that "Only GIA is Best" is challenged by another which is  "The beauty is in the eye of the beholder " in any case ...It' NOT a GIA DIAMOND or EGL DIAMOND .... They are both diamonds. Lets not forget that very important fact. A piece of paper can not show how each diamond sparkles .

The only opinion that  should matter is YOURS.

Each one unique like a snowflake, they all come from the diamond mines around the world, get sold by the same industry as rough stones, get cut and polished by the same factories and Both look Amazing in a ring once set in the mounting of your dreams..... The 3 MAJOR FACTORS THAT WILL DETERMINE THE difference in the final price you pay are

1. NOT only the Paper that it comes with,.... but

2.HOW DIRECT YOU BUY IT ! "How many hands has that diamond flippled Before you paid for it " ? may be even more important ...and

3. HOW DIRECT IS THE SOURCE to offer you the BEST DEAL AT THE THE MOST DIRECT PRICE I as a Private Jeweler ( THERE IS NO STORE MARK UP -NO OVERHEAD- NO RENT THE THOUSANDS - STAFF TO PAY - COMMISSIONS - and THOUSANDS IN "OTHER" MONTHLY BILLS IT TAKES TO RUN A STORE FRONT... that YOU PAY FOR when you buy retail. You're dealing with 1 individual who can get you the "Nicest Diamond" Ring at the Best Price for you .

Purchasing a Engagement ring or any Jewelry piece is a very personal and emotional experience. It is YOU as the client who have to LOVE IT! and if it doesn't have the "magic sparkle" you're looking for, it makes no difference WHO certified it. The piece of paper that comes with it does not  show you how the diamond sparkles , how it looks on your hand in the setting you;ve dreamed of, That certificate will go in a draw or a safe,  it's THE "BLING" you will be looking at hundreds of times a day...every day for years to come ......right?

****EGL CERTIFIED DIAMOND DISCLAIMER

IF YOU ARE PURCHASING A DIAMOND CERTIFIED BY ANY OF THE EUROPEAN GEMOLOGICAL LABS (EGL)

EGL HAS LESS STRINGENT GRADING STANDARDS THEN GIA OR AGS LABS. AS A RESULT THE GRADING OF THE DIAMOND CAN AND WILL VARY IN either/or both CUT COLOR AND/OR  CLARITY. IF IT WERE TO BE GRADED BY GIA LAB OR GIA CERTIFIED APPRAISER. IF YOU ARE NOT BUYING A GIA CERTIFIED DIAMOND ALREADY PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT IT TO EQUAL TO GIA STANDARDS. AS THE DIAMOND IS SOLD AT A DISCOUNTED PRICE DUE TO THE LOOSER GRADING ALREADY. CARAT WEIGHT- MEASUREMENTS CAN NOT BE INTERPRETED IN ANY WAY, HOWEVER IT BEARS REPEATING THAT GRADING OF COLOR AND CLARITY IS NOT DONE BY A MACHINE  BUT BY A HUMAN EYE. THEREFORE IT IS SUBJECTIVE AND A " OPINION'. BASED ON THE LABS INDIVIDUAL STANDARDS. IF YOU EXPECT THE GRADING TO MATCH GIA, I ADVISE YOU TO PLEASE BUY A DIAMOND ALREADY CERTIFIED BY GIA. ( Don't buy a Mazda and expect it to be a Mercedes)

I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE EGL GRADING NOR DO I PRICE MY RINGS BASED ON THEIR GRADING,  INSTEAD MY PRICING IS CALCULATED ON, 1.EACH DIAMOND PURCHASE COST AND 2.COST OF THE MOUNTING- WORKMANSHIP & MATERIAL OR CUSTOM DESIGN THAT"S INVOLVED TO CREATE  A 'FINISHED PIECE'  ***INDEPENDENT OF ANY CERTIFICATION***SOLD "AS IS". I DO NOT OFFER A GUESS WHAT I "THINK" THE GRADE IS. DIAMOND DIRECT BUY ASSUMES NO LIABILITY ON GRADING AND TAKES A ROLE OF "BROKER" IN THE TRANSACTION.

THE EGL CERTIFICATE  OR OTHER CERTIFICATIONS  CAN,SERVE AS A VERIFICATION OF THE DIAMONDS SHAPE ,CARAT WEIGHT, MEASUREMENTS,  VERIFY THAT THE DIAMOND IS A "NATURAL"  DIAMOND AND ESTIMATE LOCATION OF ANY INCLUSIONS OR OTHER IDENTIFYING MARKINGS ON THE DIAMOND FOR EXAMPLE  LASER INSCRIPTION OF THE REPORT NUMBER.

DIAMOND DIRECT BUY IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE DETAILS LISTED ON ANY CERTIFICATE YOU ARE PURCHASING.

-Diamond Direct Buy*DiamondDirect Buy or which incudes the owner Anna D. of the site does not assume any liablity over diamond grading provided on the Certification a customer chooses to purchase.

CUSTOMER BUYING A DIAMOND NOT CERTIFIED BY GIA should NEVER EXPECT AT THE TIME OF SALE to have it RE CERTIFIED by GIA nd be the same quality

Even GIA does NOT GUARATEE their Grading as it states so on their certificate ALL DIAMOND CERTIFICATES are a "SUBJECTIVE" opinion of the lab based on their equipment, and experience.  Different Labs Use different Gusidelines to determine the cut color and clarity  even though they use the same terminology as GIA , THEY ARE NOT ,ALL EQUAL . Jewelers  ofthen send the same diamond to GIA  LA and the NY and get a different grade .
